Manuals basically inform you where to adjust and how to operate. Yes it also explains what will be the effect. Unfortunately the manual is full of terms that are not familiar to beginners like you. And that's what makes camera manuals difficult to follow.
Internet tutorials and videos
No doubt you can get a lot of info from the net. But you get it piece by piece. You become knowledgeable but not systematic. Sometimes, some techniques require an understanding of certain things which you will have to again search for and learn first.
Books, Magazines and more
Books can be handy. But it can only explain things as it was written. You can't ask questions if you have one. The author cannot immediately interact with you and share more than what was printed. And even if you can, there's no guarantee of reply.
